Job Description

The project is to design and develop systems engineering activities in support of hydrogen powered aircraft systems, either with Fuel Cells or H2 combustion.

As a Hydrogen Fuel System Control Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising control systems for hydrogen fuel systems for zero emission aircraft designs. Your role will involve developing control strategies, designing software algorithms, and integrating sensors and actuators to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the hydrogen fuel systems. This position requires expertise in control theory, software development, instrumentation, and hydrogen fuel technology.

Key Responsibilities will include;
  • Develop control strategies and algorithms to regulate the operation of hydrogen fuel systems, including hydrogen storage, distribution, and utilisation processes.
  • Design control loops, feedback mechanisms, and supervisory algorithms to maintain system stability, optimize performance, and ensure safety.
  • Implement control algorithms and logic using programming languages such as C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or LabVIEW.
  • Develop software interfaces for real-time monitoring, data logging, fault detection, and remote control of hydrogen fuel systems.
  • Implement control algorithms and logic using programming languages such as C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or LabVIEW.
  • Develop software interfaces for real-time monitoring, data logging, fault detection, and remote control of hydrogen fuel systems.
  • Develop dynamic models of hydrogen fuel systems using simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Aspen HYSYS, or equivalent.
  • Validate control strategies and algorithms through simulation studies, sensitivity analyses, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Implement algorithms for fault detection and diagnostics to identify abnormal conditions, equipment failures, and safety hazards in hydrogen fuel systems.
  • Develop diagnostic routines and alarm systems to alert operators and initiate corrective actions in response to system faults or anomalies.
Essential Skills
  • B.Sc M.Eng in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical or Control Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in control system design, software development, and implementation, preferably in hydrogen fuel technology or related industries.
  • Strong understanding of control theory, including PID control, state-space control, adaptive control, and model predictive control (MPC).
  • Proficiency in programming languages and software development tools, such as C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, LabVIEW, or equivalent.
  • Experience with real-time control hardware and software platforms
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and sensor technologies commonly used in hydrogen fuel systems, including pressure transducers, flow meters, temperature sensors, level / quantity measurement,
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex control issues and optimize system performance.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams and convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Advantageous Skills:
  • Familiarity with simulation tools for dynamic system modelling and simulation, such as MATLAB/Simulink, Amesim, or equivalent.
  • Aircraft Fuel Systems requirements and architecture
  • Cryogenic control systems / Liquid Hydrogen or Liquid Gas experience
  • Aerospace safety and certification requirements for Fuel Systems ARP 4754 / 4761
  • ATEX / Design of electrical system in explosive environments
